Start your tour at the park just in front of the monumental Golden Gate, one of the four entrances to the Diocletian's Palace. Dive into Roman history, and see the fortification system and defence mechanisms incorporated into the Palace gates. While strolling down thousands of years old streets you will hear stories of ingenious Roman builders, their architecture, buildings and aqueducts. In the middle of the Palace, on the iconic Peristyle Square attend the traditional change of guards and be greeted by emperor Diocletian himself.
The St. Domnius Cathedral's bell tower provides staggering views of the Palace and the surrounding archipelago. In the Palace's basement, you will hear stories of refugees and how the building was preserved for centuries due to negligence. The tour covers the medieval centre of Split built under Venetian rule.
Enjoy the beautiful seaside promenade - Riva - the place to see and be seen. This tour will help you understand both the historical importance and the modern everyday life of Split.
